In 1968, Marshall “Duffy” Duffield placed the motor from a secondhand golf cart into the hull of a motorboat, launching the prototype for the first Duffy Electric Boat. Over 50 years later, Duffy Boats are cruising through bays and lakes worldwide with more than 4,000 individually owned Duffy Boats in the Newport Harbor alone. In addition to the Duffy Factory, Sales, and Service departments, our rental company is the only one owned by Duffy himself. That’s why you can expect our rentals to be the highest quality, most up-to-date, and most well maintained Duffys around.

How many people fit on a Duffy Electric Rental boat?

All of our rentals accommodate 10 people total (regardless of age or size).

Do you allow dogs on the boats?

Unfortunately, we cannot allow any dogs on our rental boats, regardless of size. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Does Duffy Boats have any food, drinks or merchandise available?

We have bottled water available, but don’t offer any other food or beverage. You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks to enjoy on the boat. We currently don’t have any merchandise for sale.

How can I purchase a Duffy Boat Gift Card?

We sell gift cards in our rental office. If you are not able to come in, please contact rentals@duffyboats.com and we can make arrangements to mail the gift card to you.

Is the boat easy to drive and how old do you have to be?

You must be 21 years old to rent a Duffy Boat. Our boats are as easy to drive as a golf cart and they have a top speed of 5 mph. Before you depart, we provide a detailed map of the Newport Harbor, explain the boundaries and popular routes, and cover how to operate the boat.

Do you provide life jackets?

Yes, we have life jackets for all ages. Children 12 and under are required by law to wear a life jacket while on board. Infants in a car seat or baby carrier are not required to wear a life jacket, however, we still provide you with one to have on board. All adult life jackets are stowed underneath the seat cushions.

Is there music on the boat?

Every Duffy Electric Boat rental has a stereo system on board, complete with radio and Bluetooth for connecting to your Bluetooth enabled devices.

Where do we park?

We have free parking at our location, however, space is limited so carpooling is highly recommended. If our on-site lot is full upon arrival, street parking may be available, or there is metered parking at the large public lot across Pacific Coast Highway, located at 208 Tustin Avenue (the “Avon Lot”).

What time should I show up to my reservation?

We recommend arriving 20 minutes before your reservation time in order to get checked in and find parking.

What can I bring with me?

You are welcome to bring any food or beverage—and if you bring a cooler, we’ll supply the ice!

Will my kids have fun?

Absolutely! Duffy Electric Boats is a very kid-friendly environment! We have activity books filled with coloring pages and a fun “I Spy…” game—and they can enter into our monthly coloring contest as well! The Harbor is filled with exciting sights including various sea life, regular sailboat races, commercial fishing boats, and even a Ferris wheel at the Fun Zone!

What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy for our standard rentals. If your reservation is not cancelled prior to 24 hours before your scheduled rental time, you will be charged in full.

Can I load and/or decorate the boat while I wait for the rest of my party to arrive?

You will not be able to access the boats until everyone in your party is present and you are ready to depart the dock. Due to limited functional dock space, if any portion of your party is going to be late, you may load the boat, depart the dock, and then return to the dock to pick them up when they arrive—you may not sit on the boat at the dock and wait. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

I have rented duffys from other businesses over the years and this one was by far the BEST! In fact my husband said, "Don't ever use anyone else from now on!" They were great to work with and the booking process along with their confirmation call made everything very efficient. We were greeted by the nicest girl and although we were early, she was able to accommodate us. The 5 of us had brought food and drinks to enjoy and after a brief tutorial we were off. Those of us that had been on a duffy before were impressed with the cleanliness of it and our family from out of state loved every minute of it. We had a great 2 hour ride and the same great service greeted us upon our return!

Stellar service. They are definitely not the most inexpensive Duffy boat rental in the area but it is worth every penny. Parking right by the dock. Fantastic facilities and a super helpful staff. We had a two hour boat ride that ended up being a little more adventurous than we had planned and they handled it with the upmost professionalism. Super clean boats. Super helpful staff.I will be back and recommend it for anyone.

This was so fun! We had a group of 8 and were visiting Newport for our friend's birthday weekend. We paid $300 for 2 hours ($150/hr) and it was totally worth it. We went around sunset and you bring your own food and drinks. The front desk staff were very kind and the crew who helped launch our boat were super cool as well. We forgot a wine opener but another boat was able to throw us a corkscrew mid-sail . We drank and sang our hearts out (thanks to the boat's very loud bluetooth speakers) while the sun set over the water! Other things to mention are they provide free, unlimited waters and also told us to leave any trash behind as they would clean it up. Lastly - GO TO THE BATHROOM BEFORE GETTING ON!! and have fun. Can't wait to come back!

This was at lot fun to do with friends. Much better if one of your friends is a Newport Beach local who knows the story behind all those gorgeous home in the coast. You can bring your own drinks and food. It's really beautiful to sail around. I believe it was $150 x hours, with a minimum of two hours.

Duffy Electric boats is the best in the biz. Their duffys are always SO CLEAN, and the ones with the outdoor area are worth the extra money - TRUST ME. Also, the sound system is next level so you definitely won't need to bring an extra speaker. The staff there are super friendly and they give out free waters and ice for any chests you may have which is five star service if you ask me. It's a perfect location to see all that Newport Harbor has to offer and has a good amount of parking both in the lot and on the street so you don't have to chaotically get an Uber situation figured out. Definitely recommend!

My husband and I, in a miraculous break from the work stress and unrelenting parenting demands of the past 15 months, managed to do the unthinkable: We went on a mid-day, mid-week date. We left our computers and young kids behind, ordered a picnic lunch from an above-water cafe, and took a low-stakes (and relatively low-budget) spin around the wide-open water.
